Serge Monette, director of the International Office since 1992, is retiring on October 30 after 34 years at the University of Ottawa.
Monette joined the University in 1971 as coordinator of the Canada Overseas Public Administration Program and subsequently managed several international programs. In 1984, he was appointed deputy director of the Institute of International Development and Cooperation, which later became the International Office.
“Under his management, the office’s activities and the international student population have both expanded and diversified,” said Robert Major, vice-president academic and provost. “Its four areas of activity — development cooperation, exchange programs for student and faculty mobility, liaison for recruiting international students, and support services for the integration of international students — have consistently developed and have achieved enviable success.”
Major also acknowledged Monette’s major contribution to the Vision 2010 strategic planning exercise.
