The third and final phase of the Biosciences Complex, unveiled in May, has already earned a number of awards and continues to receive praise from experts, in particular for its highly efficient energy use.
Last June, the Ontario Ministry of Energy awarded the University a Certificate of Leadership in Sustainable Energy Practices in recognition of the outstanding quality of the Biosciences Complex.
Staff who played a key role in the building’s design and completion also received awards from their peers. Herb Dean, assistant director of the Physical Resources Service, was the recipient of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Technology Award in the New Institutional Buildings category. The award underscores his outstanding achievement in the application of heating, refrigerating and air-conditioning technology in the Biosciences Complex.
Pierre de Gagné, energy and environment engineer, received a 2005 quality and productivity award from the Canadian Association of University Business Officers for his leadership role in the proactive management of air quality.
