Louis Barriault, an organic chemist and professor with the University of Ottawa’s Department of Chemistry, has won the University’s 2005 Young Researcher Award, a grant worth $10,000 that acknowledges excellence and fosters leadership and innovation in young researchers.

Less than six years into his career as an independent researcher, Barriault is already internationally recognized as a significant force in organic chemistry for his innovative and aggressive approach to understanding important issues in the synthesis of structurally complex organic molecules.

In addition to attracting industry interest to his research efforts, Louis Barriault has also been able to attract gifted students to the University of Ottawa as a professor and recruiting champion with the Department of Chemistry. As testimony to his dedication, enthusiasm and scientific ingenuity in his field, he manages a sizeable research group of twelve students, all of which are NSERC fellows working on multiple projects.
