In December 2004, the University of Ottawa United Way Campaign Committee announced the launch of the Hubert Reiter Award. The award recognizes members of support and teaching staff who have demonstrated a commitment to volunteering.
Hubert Reiter was a leader in every sense of the word. He was assistant director and director of the Protection Service from 1988 to 2004. His generosity and commitment on behalf of charitable activities such as the Run for Lunch and the University of Ottawa United Way Campaign were hallmarks of his career at the University of Ottawa. In helping to make a difference in people’s lives, he was a source of inspiration for his colleagues. Retired since December 2004, Hubert Reiter continues to devote his time and energy to his community.
The Hubert Reiter Award is presented annually to a University staff member whose pioneering spirit, social commitment and persistent efforts have contributed significantly to the advancement of a social cause, to the outreach of the University of Ottawa and the well-being of our community.

A nominee for the Hubert Reiter Award may be sponsored by a member of the University of Ottawa community and supported by two letters of recommendation.

Who is eligible for the Hubert Reiter Award?
The Hubert Reiter Volunteer Award is open to all University of Ottawa employees including professors, contract and part time employees and retirees.
How are nominations evaluated?
Nominations are evaluated by a Selection Committee selected by the University of Ottawa United Way chair and co-chair. Evaluation is based solely on the contents of the nomination form and supporting documents.
What kind of biographical information is necessary to describe a nominee?
A nomination package should briefly describe the volunteer services provided by the nominee with each organization, the innovation involved in the volunteer work and the nominee’s motivation for volunteering.
