Alumna joins provincial cabinet

Madeleine Meilleur

Civil law alumna Madeleine Meilleur (LLL 1983) has joined the Ontario cabinet as minister of Culture and Francophone Affairs.

Meilleur was elected MLA for Ottawa-Vanier following the provincial election held last October 2.

Before her election and appointment to the Ontario cabinet, she was active on the municipal scene as councillor for Rideau-Vanier on the Ottawa City Council.

A registered nurse and a lawyer specializing in labour and employment law,  Meilleur was a member of the board of several community organizations and also brought her leadership to a variety of committees and working groups. She received a Community Builder Award from United Way in 2001 in recognition of her volunteer activities.
