Thanks to a $300,000 donation from Servier Canada, researchers, cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, students and staff at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute will be able to tap into international expertise regarding heart failure, a condition affecting 400,000 Canadians.
The gift creates a permanent lectureship program that will address the debilitating condition, as well as fund innovative research. The donation also supports the research of Dr. Haissam Haddad, director of the Heart Function Clinic and Transplantation Program at the institute.
Dr. Lynne Stevenson, widely regarded as one of the foremost world experts in the field of heart function, heart failure and transplantation, delivered the inaugural lecture at the Heart Institute on May 18.
Servier Canada is a subsidiary of a French pharmaceutical company.
