Francophone foundation grants four fellowships

Four University of Ottawa graduate students are among the new recipients of a fellowship from the Fondation Baxter et Alma Ricard for the 2005-2006 academic year.

Three of the fellows will pursue medical studies. They are Ginette Poulin, from Thompson, Manitoba, Marie-Claude Robert, from Cornwall, and Setareh Ziai, from Toronto. The fourth recipient, Shawn  Salewski, from Sudbury, will study for his MBA.

The 22 winners from all parts of Canada will share $600,000.

With an assured capital of $35 million, the Fondation Baxter et Alma Ricard annually awards fellowships — for a period of up to three years — to Canadian francophones living in a linguistic minority situation, allowing them to “pursue graduate studies without going into debt.”

To date, the Fondation has awarded 122 fellowships.
