While the newly-refurbished Text Analysis and Machine Learning (TAMALE) Laboratory is equipped with the expected latest technology, it also has one other element that makes it unique: a mural. Covering the entire back wall, it makes a bold and vibrant artistic statement in a space that, otherwise, would be rather sterile.
The mural is the work of artist Anna Luczak, a friend of TAMALE’s director, Stan Matwin.
The abstract acrylic painting incorporates representations of research elements, such as neural networks and decision trees, which researchers and students work with every day in the lab. “Students like [the mural] because it makes their space more interesting,” Matwin said.
