The Royal Ottawa Health Care Foundation launched the largest fundraising campaign in its 25-year history this month with the announcement of three major gifts, including $1 million from the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research.
The research institute, which is based at the Royal Ottawa Hospital, has grown dramatically over the last three years and has attracted some of the world’s leading researchers in mood disorders, anxiety and schizophrenia.
With its Open Minds Open Doors campaign, the foundation hopes to raise $15 million to help finance the cost of a new building on Carling Avenue. In an unprecedented show of support, 100 per cent of the physicians at the Royal Ottawa Hospital helped raise another $1-million dollar gift for the campaign. The foundation also announced a $500,000 corporate commitment from the Great-West Life Assurance Company.
