Antiquities museum celebrates 30-year anniversary

Torso
The Museum of Classical Antiquities at the University of Ottawa is holding a conference to celebrate its first thirty years (1975-2005).

The museum was set up by Prof. Denis Brearley of the Department of Classics and Religious Studies, who built up the collection throughout his period as curator (until his retirement in 2004).

Since 1996 the museum has been housed on the ground floor of Arts Hall and has attracted numerous visitors and several exhibitions — most recently a photographic display of Polish archaeology around the world.

The collection itself is now extensive, comprising vases, textiles, glassware, coins, statuary and tools. Over the years the museum has benefited from the support of donors, as well as from loans from the Museum of Civilization.
