University to host CIS women’s hockey championships

Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) has accepted the University’s bid to host the women’s ice hockey championships in 2007 and 2008.

As representatives of the host university, the Gee-Gees will be guaranteed an entry in both tournaments.

“Our girls have worked hard to establish themselves amongst Canada’s elite university hockey programs and this will help to establish the foundations of our young program,” says Gee-Gees head coach Shelley Coulidge.

The Gee-Gees’ fine performance in recent years was an important factor in deciding to award the 2007 and 2008 events to Ottawa: Last year, both the women’s and men’s teams qualified for the CIS championships, with the women’s team capturing a silver medal in their first appearance at the national final. This season, the women’s team is challenging for the top spot in the Quebec conference.
