At its last meeting of 2004, the Board of Governors ratified a proposal to combine the construction of Phase I and II of the multidisciplinary building.
By advancing the two phases of the project at the same time, the University will save close to $3 million and address an urgent need for classroom and research space, which is expected to become critical by 2007.
The new building, to be located at the intersection of Laurier, Nicholas and Waller, will have 12 stories. The original plan called for the construction of seven stories and two levels of underground parking during Phase I, with five more floors being added at a later date as part of Phase II.
The structure will house the School of Political Studies, the School of Management, the Department of Economics and the Centre on Governance.
