Dr. Peter Walker, dean of the Faculty of Medicine, has been awarded the Society for Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (SELAM) Award for Excellence.
The award recognizes the commitment of a senior administrator in enhancing the careers of female faculty.
Dr. Walker received the award at the annual meeting of the American Association for Medical Colleges in Boston, on November 10, 2004.
SELAM was established in 1995 by the first graduates of Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) fellowship class. The society encourages personal and professional development and promotes networking and mentoring among women in leadership positions in their respective academic institutions.
Dr. Walker has been a supporter of ELAM since it began and has personally persuaded several faculty members to apply for the highly competitive fellowship, which lasts a year and has three sessions of concentrated study interspersed with assignments to hone leadership skills of participants.
