Eight young researchers have received a total of $607,610 from the Canada
Foundation for Innovation's New Opportunities program. The successful researchers include:
- Andy Adler (School of Information and Technology and Engineering), $48,707 for biomedical monitoring technology research
- Michelle Dreidger (geography), $66,958 for a research lab in environmental and health geography
- Matthew Johnson (mechanical engineering), $84,199 for research into laser spectroscopy applications in combustion and emission controls
- Jeremy Kerr (biology), $100,000 for a new facility for ecoinformatics research
- Beatriz Martin-Perez (civil engineering), $54,304 for investigation of reinforcement corrosion on the strength of reinforced concrete structures
- Arian Novruzi (mathematics and statistics), $53,065 for the creation of the Optimal Shape Design Laboratory, which will carry out research into the design of fuel cells
- Jeffrey Perry (emergency medicine), $100,426 for research into the use of information technology to improve emergency department care
- Christine Suurtamm (mathematics and statistics), $99,951 for a laboratory for the teaching and learning of mathematics.
