Deal struck for new teaching hospital

A deal for a new Royal Ottawa Hospital was concluded last month confirming that the psychiatric teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of Ottawa, will advance to construction at the end of the summer.

The $256-million agreement was struck between the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group (ROHCG) and The Healthcare Infrastructure Company of Canada (THICC). The 21-year contract includes the development of a 188-bed hospital and a research institute within a 37,000 square-metre structure.

The hospital will own and oversee the management of the facilities, but the design, construction and maintenance of the facility, along with non-clinical services will be contracted out to THICC. The capital cost of the project is about $127 million.

All clinical services will continue to be funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
