Carlos “Bobby” Brown recently became the new head coach of the Gee-Gees women's basketball team.
Brown has been a part of the Gee-Gees basketball family for almost 15 years. He wore the garnet and grey as a basketball player for five seasons from 1990 to 1995. He helped lead the University of Ottawa to the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU) national semi-finals in 1992-93.
Following his playing career, Brown worked as an assistant coach with particular responsibilities for recruitment and fundraising from 1995 to 1999 alongside former University of Ottawa bench boss Jack Eisenmann. He later served as associate head coach to David DeAveiro from 2001 to 2003. Last season, Brown guided the men's basketball team at Collège de l'Outaouais in Gatineau.
“It's been a lifetime dream to coach at this level, but in my dream there are lots of things I hope to accomplish,” Brown said. “We will recruit Canada's finest female student-athletes while continuing to build one of the country's most competitive basketball programs.”
The women basketball program enjoyed unparalleled success in 2003-04. In their third season under Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East Coach of the Year Angie McLeod, the Gee-Gees had a 17-5 regular season record and won their first ever OUA title. They also made it to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national championship for the first time in the team's 34-year history.
