The University of Ottawa has a new person in charge of its $530-million budget.
Victor Simon, a highly experienced administrator with strong ties to the region, will join the university as its vice-rector, resources. The vice-rector is the senior administrator responsible for the University's financial, human, computing and physical resources, as well as capital construction and planning, housing, and sports services.
“I'm pleased to welcome Victor back to Ottawa and to the University of Ottawa,” said Rector Gilles Patry. “I know he'll make a great contribution to our senior management.”
Simon replaces Carole Workman, who steps down after 12 years in the position.
Simon joins the university from the McGill University Health Centre, where he has worked as COO since 2001. Before joining the MUHC, he had a 10-year career at the Ottawa General Hospital (later the Ottawa Hospital), and has also worked at the Montreal General Hospital and at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
“I'm excited to join such a dynamic organization as the University of Ottawa, especially as it begins the most important capital campaign in its history,” said Simon. “I look forward to working within the university and with our partner institutions to reinforce the position of the University of Ottawa as one of North America's great universities and Ottawa as a centre for research and teaching.”
Simon will begin his duties at the university August 17, 2004.
