Canadian engineers honour SITE director

Professor Gilles Delisle, director of the School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE), received the Meritorious Service Award for Professional Service from the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers.

Respected around the world, Delisle has been asked by the United Nations to apply his engineering expertise to assist 15 developing countries. He has also directed sensitive negotiations with Costa Rica and Chile, and contributed to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

The Canadian Engineers’ Awards presented annually since 1972 recognize outstanding engineering excellence and achievement.

Delisle and professor Trevor Hall, Canada Research Chair in Photonic Network Technology at SITE, have also been named Fellows of the Institution of Electrical Engineers of the UK. The IEE was founded in 1871 and is the largest professional engineering society in Europe.
