The winds of change continue to blow on the University. Over the next few months, four new deans will begin their mandates in the faculties of Arts, Engineering, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and the Civil Law Section of the Faculty of Law.
“These nominations arrive at an important juncture in the evolution of the University,” said Rector Gilles Patry. “The new deans will play an important role in ensuring the success of several recent initiatives such as the strategic planning exercise, Vision 2010, the Campaign for Canada's university and the new brand. We are privileged to welcome the new deans to the University of Ottawa.”
The University recruited the new dean of arts, George Lang, from Alberta. Lang has roots in Quebec, however, having lived in Montreal for several years and collaborated for 20 years to the Université de Sherbrooke publication Ellipse, contributing several translations of Quebec poetry. An expert in modern languages and cultural studies, Lang has been a professor at the University of Alberta since 1990. He was also the Faculty of Art's associate dean of the university for two years from 1997 to 1999. He will begin his mandate here at the University of Ottawa on July 1. |
