Jarislowsky donation creates new research Chair

Tabaret Hall was abuzz September 23 with the University of Ottawa’s public announcement of the Jarislowsky Chair in Public Sector Management.

Supported by a $1 million gift from businessman and philanthropist Stephen Jarislowsky of Montreal, this endowed chair will help recruit a leading scholar and enhance research capacity in public policy and governance.

The Jarislowsky Chair will focus on research, teaching, and public programs in public accountability, and will provide a focal point in Canada for the study of new forms of public sector management.

A chair in this field couldn’t have a better home. Research conducted at Canada’s university on the important structures and processes of civil service management will be conducted within walking distance of Parliament Hill. The University of Ottawa’s prime location in the heart of the nation’s capital enables researchers to study and disseminate findings with relative ease.
