Stephen Lewis, one of Canada’s most outspoken humanitarians, became the first man to deliver the Shirley Greenberg Annual Lecture in Women’s Studies at the University of Ottawa on March 26. Lewis’s lecture was entitled “HIV/AIDS in Africa: Gender Inequality is Fatal.” Lewis, who is the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa, was one of three Canadians to receive a Distinguished Canadian Leadership Award from the University of Ottawa in 2003.
