MedShow an important part of Medicine's tradition

Amedical Idol is the theme of this year’s MedShow and as in the past, the show will draw together a multi-talented group of medical students to perform music and skits.

“First-year students will perform, while second-year students will produce the show,” said medical student Nick Dust, a director of the charity event, which will be performed at the Alumni Auditorium March 25-27.

MedShow’s history stretches back to 1968 and it’s now an important part of the Faculty of Medicine’s tradition.

A look back at University of Ottawa yearbooks shows the names of costume and set designers, band members and scriptwriters, who today are leading research teams, performing surgery and looking after family practices in Canada and around the world.

“The MedShow, in my opinion, is without a doubt the biggest show of the school spirit (esprit de corps) that Medicine has,” says a yearbook entry by Dr. Mark Ackland, ’83, who now lives in Massachusetts. “All four years get together to make it work. And it does, year after year.”

The proceeds of MedShow support community organizations. This year, students will raise funds for the Therapeutic Riding Association of Ottawa-Carleton and Children at Risk.
