At the meeting of the Board of Governors on June 22, uOttawa president Allan Rock presented a summary report of the institution's major activities over the past year.
The report touches on a number of topics, including the University's efforts to implement progressive measures (creating an ombudsperson's position, for instance) and to find ways of bringing more women into senior management in faculties.
In addition, the report talks about the past year's focus on improving communications between the University and its staff and students and on strengthening community spirit on campus, with the special services launched to contend with the strike at OC Transpo serving as a prime example.
Mr. Rock also discusses alumni relations, fundraising, research activity and funding, the five-year capital construction plan, as well as French-language programs and services.
Another topic is the institution's priorities for 2009-2010, such as crafting a new strategic plan to follow up on Vision 2010, and taking a critical look at expenditures as part of a "resource optimization" exercise.
Finally, Mr. Rock stresses the importance of continuing to heighten uOttawa's presence on the international stage and mentions the upcoming launch of a service office where members of the University community can gain a deeper sense of fulfillment through civic engagement and assistance to others locally, nationally and internationally.
