Dr. Ashraf Ghani, a key figure in rebuilding Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban, gave a public lecture at the Faculty of Law earlier this month. Ghani, who was Afghanistan’s minister of finance from 2002 to 2004, is a leading advocate for foreign investment as a tool for economic development and the eradication of poverty. His talk, “Renewing the Rules of the Game: Creating Collective Power Through the Law,” was a companion event to the “Symposium on Applied Research in Legal Empowerment of the Poor,” held at the University of Ottawa on November 6.
