Men’s hockey: Gee-Gees draw attention

Ottawa goalie makes save

The Gee-Gees men’s hockey team ranks among the top five university teams in the country despite a line-up comprising 13 new players.

As of February 2, the team had lost only three times, including once in overtime. The Gee-Gees twice surrendered to their long-time nemesis, the Patriotes of Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in the regular season but they continue to lead them in the standings. The Patriotes have beaten the Gee-Gees in their last three playoff series.

First-year head coach David Leger says the team will be ready for the Ontario division semi-finals, which start on February 25. “We hope to be able to continue to increase the tempo of our play over the next couple of weeks to the point that opponents will have difficulty competing at the same pace,” he said.

The team has three road games left to complete the regular season: February 13 at Toronto, February 14 at Ryerson and February 20 at McGill.
