During the fall Convocation on October 26, the University of Ottawa will confer an honorary doctorate degree on economist Robert Lacroix. Emeritus professor and former rector (1998 to 2005) of the Université de Montréal, Lacroix taught and worked for more than 30 years at this institution, during which time he greatly influenced its development. He is an ardent supporter of academic education and research, which he considers essential to the growth of society. Lacroix earned a doctorate degree in economics from the University of Louvain in Belgium and has done extensive research into the economics of labour and human resources and the economics of technological progress and innovation.
