David Leger, Head Coach, Men's Hockey

What is your most important function at the University and why?

My responsibility is to lead the Men's Hockey program in a fashion that represents a strong sense of pride for alumni, students, staff and friends of the hockey program.

What is it about your job that inspires you most?

Participating in the development of our student-athletes: from their first visit to the campus until their graduation from their desired program. I always tell people that I have a front-row seat in the lives of 25 young men.

What was your life’s proudest moment?

In sports, no question, coaching the 2003 - 2004 Gee-Gees Hockey Team that represented the school at the CIS National Championships. In my personal life, no question, the births of my two daughters.

What would you change in the world today if you could?

More tolerance, understanding and respect for differences (race, opinions and actions) in society.

Who is the most influential person in your life? Why?

My wife, she is an unbelievable mother for our two daughters and still balances a full time teaching position as an elementary school teacher. She also knows how to put me in my place.

What is the quality you value the most?

Honesty and transparency of a person's motives.

Which five people (living or dead) would you like to invite to a dinner party?

Bob Nicholson, President, Hockey Canada; Andy Maize, lead singer of the Skydiggers; Hugh McLennan, Canadian author; Pat Tobin, a childhood friend; and John Landry, another good friend.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Coaching and managing the Gee-Gees hockey program to a successful season on and off the ice.
