After winning the Canadian Qualifying Tournament of the 2008 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition for the second year in a row, the University of Ottawa’s Common Law Team represented Canada at the Shearman & Sterling International Round in Washington, D.C., held from April 6 to 12. Students from more than 100 law schools in 77 countries participated, making it the world’s largest and most prestigious moot court competition.
This year’s team, coached by Professor Anthony Daimsis and advisor, Erik Eastaugh, included Safina Lakhani, Brendan Green, Benjamin Piper, Michael Marin and David Quayat. The team tallied the second-most points after the preliminary rounds and won seventh place for their memorials (written statements). Quayat and Green finished in the top group of oralists (speakers).
