The University community was saddened to learn of the death of retired professor Julien Couture on February 29. Professor Couture joined the Second Language Institute (now the Institute of Official Languages and Bilingualism) in 1976 as a French as a Second Language teacher.
Professor Couture was very much admired by his students for his innovative and stimulating classes. He was instrumental in developing a number of new courses for the Institute’s FSL and DLS programs. Richard Clément, director and associate dean of the Institute of Official Languages and Bilingualism, said, “Julien will be fondly remembered as a valued colleague who was always generous with his time and experience.”
