University recognized for outstanding United Way campaign

The University of Ottawa’s record-breaking 2007 United Way Campaign, which raised a grand total of $434,595, may be over but it has not been forgotten. For the first time, United Way Ottawa has established a Best Division Campaign Award to recognize those workplaces that run outstanding United Way campaigns. The University’s commitment has earned it the Best Education Division Campaign Award 2007.

United Way Ottawa praised the dedication and commitment of uOttawa employees, and attributes part of the campaign success to the huge amount of fun put into the campaign. The University was also recognized for the significant increase in funds raised, the highly successful retiree campaign and the exceptional number of donors at the leaders (+$1,000) and friends (+$500-$999) level. The University campaign is the third highest in the Ottawa Valley, after the City of Ottawa and Canada Post.

The Ottawa area has more than 1,800 workplace United Way campaigns. The awards have been allocated in nine divisions: education, high tech, business, small-medium business, professionals, finance, labour, new business, and government and institutions.

Denis Cossette, co-chair of the uOttawa United Way Campaign said, “We are delighted to have our campaign recognized in this way. It’s a true team effort and our students played a big part in this year’s success. The biggest thanks, of course, go to our donors who have been so generous over the years.”

The Campaign Team will receive a plaque in honour of this achievement at the Founders’ Breakfast on May 2.
