Awards with heart

Heather Lynch

From elementary school through to the post-secondary level, educators play an invaluable role in our society. Many times, they are overlooked and taken for granted.

In 2001, business and education leaders looking to raise the profile of public education and recognize the dedication of our local educators created the Capital Educators’ Awards. Thought to be the only community in Canada to recognize the whole spectrum of education, these awards have become a unique annual Ottawa event.

This year, the University of Ottawa is once again an education partner in these awards. If you know of a University professor who deserves to receive a Capital Educators’ Award, send in your nomination before February 23, 2007. Judges representing the Ottawa community will review the nominations and select up to 20 award recipients from 65 finalists. Submissions are invited from students, educators, parents and members of the general public.

The winners will be announced during a gala ceremony that will take place in the spring at Algonquin College. During this celebration, guests will have the opportunity to hear the winners’ stories of accomplishment, as well as to gain a greater understanding of these educators’ desire to make a difference.
