Practising risk management has never been so rewarding!

Any time you’ve received a flu shot or even crossed the street, did you know you were practising risk management? So why not get recognized for it? The University of Ottawa Office of Risk Management is rewarding those who have made an outstanding contribution to the University’s risk management, environmental, safety, biological and/or radiation performance. By simply filling out an entry with information on risk management activities that you and/or your team have practised, you could win the Risk Management Award and its $200 prize.

Penny Cousineau-Levine, chair of the visual arts department, is the first recipient of the Risk Management Award. Cousineau-Levine was responsible for a session held to familiarize first-year students with the safety hazards related to visual artists and their equipment. Daniel Legault, responsible for the Faculty of Education’s newsletter, and the Smyth Road Health and Safety Committee’s pro-active initiatives received honourable mentions.

The Office of Risk Management is accepting nominations for the next award. If you or your team have implemented risk management activities of which you are proud, submit your nomination by December 8, 2006. All staff and students are eligible for the award.

If you have questions regarding risk management or the Risk Management Award, contact John Lammey at 613-562-5800 ext. 2093 or jlammey@uOttawa.ca.
