The founder of the University of Ottawa Press, Father Léopold Lanctôt passed away on Saturday, October 21 at age 95. He celebrated his 71st year in the priesthood in 2006.
Founded in 1936, the University of Ottawa Press (UOP) is one of the oldest university-based publishing houses in Canada. It was the first bilingual university press in Canada. UOP grew out of the
Revue de l’Université d’Ottawa of which Father Lanctôt was the under secretary. Father Lanctôt ran the UOP almost singlehandedly for 47 years, until his retirement in 1983.
Father Lanctôt's funeral was held on October 30, in Sacré-Cœur church.
