What’s in a name?

This issue’s quickpoll seeks Gazette readers’ opinion on the naming of the new $5-million pedestrian bridge connecting Somerset Street West to the University campus. The bridge will be officially named after the City of Ottawa conducts a public naming process this fall.

Quickpoll offers a few possibilities, including recognition for uOttawa founder Father Joseph-Henri Tabaret. The Corktown Bridge has been proposed by the Ottawa District Labour Council and the Bytown Museum. Corktown was the shantytown inhabited by largely Irish workers who built the 200-kilometre long canal system between 1826 and 1832.
