Peter Koppel nominated for TVO’s Best Lecturer title

Students and alumni from across Ontario were asked to nominate a lecturer, who inspired or enthralled them. Known for his innovative and engaging style, Peter Koppel was one of more than 250 nominations. TVO announced that Professor Koppel is one of a group of 71 to enter the next stage of the TVO Best Lecturer Competition.

Professor Koppel has taught at the School of Management since 1981. In addition to his teaching and lecturing, he serves as assistant dean (Student Services) and director of the Undergraduate Program. In 2003, he founded the School of Management Career Centre and is currently responsible for its strategic planning.

The responsibility for narrowing this group down further, to 30 semi-finalists, lies with the judges: Globe and Mail columnist Margaret Wente, award-winning novelist Camilla Gibb and Tony Keller, managing editor of Maclean’s. They will be looking for lecturers who engage their listeners with passion and flair, and convey their messages with genuine conviction. Semi-finalists will be announced this fall.

The final group of ten most innovative, entertaining, compelling lecturers personifying a love of learning, will be taped and featured on the network’s Big Ideas program next season.
