Harassment Working Group releases report

With a mandate to make recommendations to the University community, the Harassment Working Group released its report Harassment at the University of Ottawa: Recommendations and Report in July.

The group, formed in December 2005, included student, faculty and staff representatives. A number of recommendations emerged including the creation of a Student Advocacy Office by the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa; better training for students, staff and faculty; review of policies to ensure fairer processes; increased support for counseling services; and an awareness-raising campaign on the issues around harassment and sexual assault.

Emphasizing the need for a more comprehensive approach, particularly among student and university services, the group sees this report as a first step toward stronger collaboration. Its aim is to ensure a reduction in the number of cases of harassment and sexual assault in the University community and to create a safe campus environment with fair procedures for reporting incidents of harassment.
