Graduate reaches top of the world

University of Ottawa graduate Jean-François Carrey reached the top of Mount Everest on May 18, 2006. At age 24, Carrey became the youngest Canadian to accomplish this feat.

He was accompanied on his quest by sherpas Samduk Dorje, Dawa Nuru, and Nima Karma and fellow climbers Justin Merle, Walter Laserer, Karl Flock and Markus Buel.

According to a message posted on www.jfcarrey.com, the weather and conditions were good and the climbers “made excellent time and climbed most of the way in the dark with the moon.” Carrey reached the top of the world at 5:10 a.m., Nepal time, on May 18.
