University receives two new health-focussed Canada Research Chairs

Two Canada Research Chairs are being established at the University of Ottawa, which now is home to a total of 46 CRCs.
The new chairs are:

  • Robert Screaton, Canada Research Chair in Apoptotic Signalling
Dr. Screaton’s research seeks to understand the mechanisms by which cells respond to survival – and death – signals from their external environment. This research will lead to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic tools, particularly for such diseases as diabetes and cancer.
  • Jeanette Ward, Canada Research Chair in Policy Implementation in Population Health
Ward’s research examines strategies of health advancement, health system responses and capacity through studying what works at a practical level. It is hoped her work will help governments of all persuasions across Canada find the most effective ways to reverse adverse trends in population health and maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of their decisions.
