What is your most important function at the University and why?
My most important function is to contribute to the growth of research in areas of priority by participating in all aspects of research proposals, from development to completion. I am a resource person and a key link between funding agencies, our office, research facilitators and most importantly, the researchers.
What is it about your job that inspires you most?
Working directly with the researchers is very inspiring. I am often the first contact with faculty who are applying for funding. This can be a daunting task for researchers, and being able to facilitate the application process is a challenging, yet, rewarding experience. Sharing in the success of the funding is the ‘icing on the cake.’
What are you most proud of?
My three children, two grandchildren and the relationships I have developed with them.
If you could, what would you change in the world today?
The pace – life is not the destination, it is a journey. And the living is in how you get there.
Who is the most influential person in your life? Why?
My dad. He spent his life doing things for others, and never complained. He battled divorce, alcohol and cancer. I will always appreciate the strength he has given me.
What is your favourite pastime?
I love the seasons and planning how to enjoy each of them … And my two yellow labs, of course.
What is the quality you value the most?
Honesty and integrity, and you can’t have one without the other.
What is the best kept secret in your faculty, department or service?
Christel Binnie [Ed. note: director, research communications]. She is a remarkable resource person who leads, participates and inspires all of us.
