Welsh award to Paul Birt

The Welsh Society of Philadelphia, founded in 1722, has awarded its prestigious Robert Morris Award for 2006 to Paul W. Birt, chair of Celtic Studies at the University of Ottawa.

Birt received the award in recognition of his contribution to Welsh scholarship, and promotion of the Welsh language.

The Robert Morris Award was instigated in 1954 in memory of the noted 18th-century Welsh-American who is credited with financing the war for American independence.
