Jennifer Edwards de Becceril
Faculty Recruitment Coordinator

What is your most important function at the University and why?

I am the (still new) Faculty Recruitment Coordinator. My most important function is to support the faculties in their recruitment of new professors; pre-selection and post-hiring.  We will be recruiting heavily in the coming years.

I am the main contact for information-sharing among faculties vis-à-vis their faculty recruitment matters, while also providing logistical support to new professors in their move to Ottawa to help ensure that they have a good experience with us right from the start.

What is it about your job that inspires you most?

I am a graduate of the School of Management. I knew the University as a student first, and I clearly remember the professors who had the most impact on me. It inspires me to know that the young new professors with whom I am working closely today will quickly become tremendous mentors as well.

What would your co-workers be most surprised to know about you?

I was in a Mexican soap opera!

Which five people (living or dead) would you like to invite to a dinner party? Tell us why.

My husband – to sit right beside me

Terry Fox – to tell him how much I admire his courage

Celia Cruz – to provide some lovely after-dinner entertainment

Gary Larson – to see if his sense of humour is as twisted in conversation as it is in his cartoons

Catriona Lemay Doan – to ask her what it takes to win an Olympic gold medal, and what it feels like when you do

What is your greatest hope for the future?

The world is an imperfect place. I hope it becomes less imperfect with every passing day.
