SFUO President Brazeau re-elected

Following the student elections held on February 7, 8 and 9, André Brazeau was easily re-elected to his post of president of the Student Federation. Brazeau garnered almost 58 per cent of the 4,634 total votes cast to defeat his two opponents Wassim Garzouzi and Alex McNamara.

Two other incumbents on the executive won re-election without contest: Julien de Bellefeuille as vice-president, university affairs, and Amy Morris as vice-president, finance.

The newcomers are Brigitte Noël elected as vice-president, student affairs, who defeated three other candidates in a hotly contested race; and Mike Anderson, who received 70 per cent of the votes against his only opponent, to be elected vice-president, social.

Student voters were also asked to decide on seven referendum questions. They voted 82 per cent in favour of a study week that would follow Thanksgiving week and 78 per cent in favour of a 25 cent contribution per student per session to fund a food bank on campus. They also accepted a proposal to fund an independent student advocacy office to address complaints of sexual assault, harassment, hate crimes and misconduct within the University of Ottawa community.

Students rejected the proposed contribution to finance the creation of an ombudsperson position at the University.
