Alumna Sherraine MacKay won a second consecutive World Cup event in Saint Maur, France, on February 4, 2006, to become the number one ranked women’s épée fencer in the world.
This marks the first time a Canadian has been ranked as the top fencer in the world.
Just a week earlier, MacKay had taken the gold medal in the Prague Épée d’Or World Cup event, after starting out the 2006 season with a silver medal in Budapest.
