Students awarded mentorship scholarships

  Mélanie Carter and James Duncan

Mélanie Carter and James Duncan Istchenko are the 2005-2006 recipients of the CIBC Mentorship Program Scholarships.

The scholarships recognize and reward University of Ottawa students for volunteering as mentors to other students through the Student Academic Success Service (SASS). The scholarship program, currently in its second year, will eventually provide 18 scholarships each year that will cover undergraduate tuition, up to $4,500 per student.

Carter, a fourth-year criminology and psychology student from the Faculty of Social Sciences is currently serving her second year as a student mentor for the Faculty of Arts and has plans to study law at the University of Ottawa in September 2006. Istchenko, a biochemistry graduate and fourth-year chemical engineering student, has been a mentor for the Faculty of Science for three years.
