Scholarships point to bright future in French

Three winners of Le français pour l'avenir contest

Three high school students from Ontario and Quebec were each awarded $20,000 scholarships from the University of Ottawa for their participation in the “French for the Future” essay contest.

This initiative was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the organization “French for the Future” and Sélection Reader’s Digest and Reader’s Digest magazines.

The winners (left to right): Lauren Langille, Oshawa, Ontario; Maryse Gendron, Montmagny, Quebec; and Martine Lee, Toronto, Ontario received their scholarships on January 25 during a special reception attended by John Ralston Saul, French for the Future’s honorary chair.

The winning entry, penned by Lauren Langill, appears in the February 2006 issue of Reader’s Digest.
