Dr. Kenneth Banks is joining the Department of History in the field of New France and the Atlantic World in 2007. His first book, "Chasing Empire Across the Sea: Communications and the State in the French Atlantic, 1713-1763," won the French Colonial Historical Society's Heggoy Prize for Best Book (2003); his most recent essay examined French Slaving companies and African coastal kingdoms in 17th-century West Africa. He has been interested in groups working on urban conservation, environmental protection, human rights, and world economic and fair labor issues.
