COMMUNITY PARTNER INFORMATION:
Organization:
Day of Information Lifetime of Action
Description:
For the last two years, a conference has been held on campus that hosts over 400 high school students from 30-40 high schools from both public boards that aims to inform, inspire and initiate change in a "think global act local" way. The conference is co-ordinated by over 60 university students who serve as group leaders to the students who come (all faculty of education students), host workshops on global issues and create materials to help the students and teachers remember and carry out the ideas they come up with throughout the day. The day also attracts 20-30 speakers from local NGOs and has featured UOttawa students as keynote speakers and most prominently Marc Keilburger in its first year. This year we will be bringing Sol Guy as the keynote speaker who is a former rap producer who produces a MTV show called 4Real that brings celebrities to NGO's all over the world making a difference at the grassroots level to learn about their work.
