Billings Estate National Historic Site
Description:
The Billings Estate National Historic Site (BENHS) is an 8.8-acre historic site located in the Alta Vista neighbourhood in Ottawa. The main feature of the site is the 3-storey house, built in 1829 for the Billings family, which contains museum exhibits, six outbuildings, gardens, ample natural/park space and a pioneer cemetery. The mandate of the Billings Estate National Historic Site is to collect, preserve, research, interpret and exhibit the evolution of the house and the property, its use by five generations of the Billings family from 1813 to 1975, its long-standing relationship between the Billings family and the surrounding community of Billings Bridge, early pioneer life and rural estates in general.
