COMMUNITY PARTNER INFORMATION:
Organization:
SecDev Group
Description:
The SecDev Group works at the intersection of security and development in complex and insecure environments. We are a global network of seasoned experts and practitioners, with extensive on-the-ground experience in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and the former Soviet Republics. We produce evidence-based, locally-grounded research, policy advice and programming in four core areas: governance challenges (in the broadest sense of state-society relations); conflict-sensitive development; conflict and armed violence reduction, prevention and recovery; and, the political/economic impacts of new communications technologies. Our goal is to build more effective bridges between policy intentions and effective outcomes. We generate our own research and programming agendas around emerging issues. We also respond to the needs of our clients in the government, corporate, multilateral and not-for-profit sectors. While not a magic bullet, we believe that local engagement based on a profound understanding of the "ground truth" & the local development and security environment in all its socio-economic and political complexity & is the key to more effective interventions, as well as risk mitigation. To this end, we leverage our collective capacities for local research and engagement. We also advance innovative research tools and methods, based on new information technologies and Geographic Information Systems.
