National Congress of Italian Canadians
Description:
The National Congress of Italian Canadians (the "Ottawa Congress") is a not-for-profit organization representing approximately 1.3 million Italian Canadians in this country and which acts as a liaison between the Italian community and the various levels of government. The local chapter of the National Congress of Italian Canadians (National Capital District) (the “Ottawa Congress”) represents some 43,000 Italian Canadians living in the Nation’s Capital. While its Executive Committee consists of 14 members, it also has a Board of Directors which includes some (25) twenty-five Italian Canadian Associations and Clubs each of which has its own membership list. The Presidents of each of these Clubs are Directors on the Board of the Ottawa Congress meet during the year to discussion Community issues and projects for the betterment of the community. The objectives of the Congress includes the integration of Italians within the Canadian society and encouraging and promoting activities of an educational, cultural and political dimension. In its capacity as the official representative of the Italian Canadian community, the Ottawa Congress is looking forward to partnering with the University of Ottawa through the Centre for Global and Community Engagement.
